Marlene and JoeHi, I'm Marlene Malcher, and I'd love to tell you about my mule family!

For many years I partnered with my husband Jerry in raising some of the best mules in Alberta. Our paths have separated and I now live on 36 acres close to Ponoka Alberta. Jerry still lives on the family farm but has sold all his breeding stock and will no longer be raising mules. I have retained several quarter horse mares for myself.

Marlene and JoeMy main saddle mule for the last few years has been Smokin' Joe. Although Joe wasn't home grown, he sure has found a spot in my heart and I wouldn't part with him for anything! He is the most sure-footed critter I have ever ridden and he has given me countless hours of pleasure riding including many trips into Alberta's majestic Rocky Mountains. Joe has won several Championships at Tees Longears Days and since 2000, we have participated in the Alberta Donkey and Mule Club demonstrations at Spruce Meadows. One of our personal highs include riding in an All Mule Drill Team which performs every third weekend in August at Tees Longears Days in Tees, Alberta.

Another member of my personal mule family is Daisy Duke, a molly that was born and raised on our own farm. Her easygoing nature has also earned her a spot in my heart. She is broke to ride and drive and has become a favorite mount of a young teen-age lady that loves to show her and also ride her in the all Mule Drill Team. Daisy has risen above several life threatening ordeals in her life and, in typical mule fashion, has come out on top of all of them.

Scarlet is my youngest and tallest saddle mule and she is still in a training program. She has a smooth, ground-covering stride and I hope she will make a solid riding mule when she is finished.

The young mules always steal my heart and I find much pleasure in watching them grow, learn and play. There is a great deal of satisfaction in knowing that they are placed in good homes and with folks that truly love them and enjoy them for years to come.

It has been my passion and pleasure for many years now to spread the good news about this wonderful equine hybrid "the mule". I have worked with the Alberta Donkey and Mule club in many capacities and continue to do so. Even though I will not be as active in the actual raising of mules I will continue my involvement and keep"Mammoth Mules" up and running! I will continue to do what I do best, organizing, volunteering and telling everyone I know about these wonderful critters. I will continue to campaign to all owners about the importance of learning how to fit your tack to horses, mules and donkeys, through articles, Clinics and Videos.

You're always welcome to stop by and visit if you can catch me at home! Just call first and if I can I will get back to you right away! There are certain times of the year that I am away working or "gone to the hills!" So if you don't reach me right away, or hear right back…don't panic, I'm either on a job or out riding my mule!
